Hexing...

I learned to hex on a Hex Editor - but boy was that tedious! Thankfully Pet Workshop and LNZ Pro were developed! I'd say my hexies are made about 50/50 in both programs.
I more often hex breedfiles for trade over bred petz (brexing), but I have been venturing into that a bit lately - my brexed petz page can be found HERE.

I usually plan out a color scheme before I hex, and then I just randomly add things, change colors and combine as much as I can think of to make something look good. Usually takes a few hours to get something exactly right, or often I will work on something over a few weeks just so I have a fresh approach each time I come back to the hex. Other times I'll have a specific inspiration (such as an ice cream or something) and my hex will be based off of that. Or I have some random idea in my head that I think would look good and I try it out, more often then not it turns out completely different though..

History of Xoops...

While exploring things I could do with my website on my new domain I came across a web tool called Xoops - on the official site it says "XOOPS is a dynamic OO (Object Oriented) based open source portal system written in PHP. XOOPS is the ideal tool for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals, corporate portals, weblogs and much more.
Anyway, I liked the word so I decided to go with it haha. Not sure how it *should* be pronounced, but I pronounce it like "Zoops"

Originally Xoops was dedicated to the muttlie breed made by Naturenut @ The Glade. Unfortunately interest in muttlies eventually dissipated in the PC, so Xoops was only a muttlie site from June 8th, 2004 until April 1st, 2005. I then put the site on hiatus.

On July 9th, 2006 I reopened Xoops, as a Petz 5 Hexie Only site (adoptions/archive). It was supposed to be my way of.. well for one, doing something with the site, and two, to get me to hex more often. If I had a site made for hexies then hopefully I would feel more obligated to hex?.. or so I thought haha. On January 1, 2007 Xoops officially became a petz 3+ hexie site instead of Petz 5. It eventually just became a Hex Archive, sans adoptions, and for the most part, served its purpose of encouraging me to hex.

Thought I'd keep a estimated tally here of # of hexies per year (does not include my "first" hexies, ~26):
2004: 5
2006: 21
2007: 25
2008: 19
2009: 16
2010: 10
2021: 40
2022: 47
2023: 59
2024: 75
2024: 0
TOTAL: 317

Past Layouts

Version 1

Light blue, inline frame with picture border, navigation was at the botom of the border. I hadn't intended to make very many layouts for Xoops, but I kinda got bored with this and had to make a new one... None of my layouts had names.
Duration: June 8th to August 3rd, 2004

Version 2

A darker version, basically different variations of greys, blacks etc. Inline frame with a left and right frame inside that. A drop-down menu changed the sublinks in the left frame.
Duration: August 3rd to October 30th, 2004

Version 3
The only layout with a name.. "The Wonders of Autumn". This one was by far my favorite layout. It had pretty autumn leaves and autumn colors (green, red, orange). It had the same format and such of the previous layout, just different pictures/colors. I forgot to get a picture of it though before I put up the new layout :/
Duration: October 30th, 2004, to March 30th, 2005

Version 4

The last layout for Xoops as a muttlie site. Another inline frame, links above the frame and below the header picture. 'Twas very pink and black.
Duration: March 30th, 2005, to July 9th, 2006

Version 1 (Again!)

The first layout for Xoops as a hex site. Red, Black, and Blue (with bits of white) Right, middle, and left frames. Links in the left frame. I really liked this layout, its simple but nice :D
Duration: July 9th, 2006, to December 20th, 2007

Version 2

Based off of a layout I did for Oasis and the current layout. On May 24, 2021, I revamped the site a bit to make it more browser and device friendly.
